Blood donor fears the worst

MY husband, a blood donor for the past nine years, is of the O negative blood group.

Normally, as per requests from the General Hospital, he will go there to donate. Sometimes he donates without any request.

The last time he donated was in April this year. He was diagnosed with colon cancer, which had spread to the liver and at stage 4.

He was a healthy man, a vegetarian most of the time. He had no symptom of this sickness, just a slight pain in the abdomen last July.

That led to a medical check-up and the discovery of the cancer. He is now undergoing chemotherapy.

My question is, how was the blood checked? My husband donates in pure sincerity. He is shocked that the hospital could not detect the cancer, and the worse fear is where has the donated blood gone to?

Who is the poor patient who got his blood? Would the patient be affected?

The donor thinks that when the hospital does not call back on blood matter, he is healthy. As for the patient who receives the “sick” blood, how long before he is affected?

S.P,

Johor Baru.
