Thousands may be in car rebate dilemma

REFERRING to Ajit Singh Jessy’s letter (The Star, Dec 25), there are 7,000-plus Proton customers facing a similar problem, including my wife. I am sure there are many more from Perodua’s customers.

My wife also took the offer of the Xchange programme, and sent her car to Puspakom and JPJ for inspection and clearance. The necessary documents were submitted to the Proton outlet in Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Klang, in early November after her car loan was approved (a government loan).

Since then she has been “chasing” for the car, a Proton Saga. However, suddenly we were informed that the Xchange scheme was terminated on Nov 6 after we had submitted the documents, and now there are 7,000-plus applications “hanging in the air”.

This was because the allocation from the Government for the Xchange scheme had been used up. Nobody from the outlet right to Proton could give a confirmed decision on the suspension.

I was informed that Proton is making an appeal to the Government to further approve (extra) allocations, but again nobody can confirm when a decision will be made.

Meanwhile, we are all at a loss as to the next course of action.

I hope either Proton or the respective ministry will make a firm decision on this matter soon, and please, no flip-flop decision.

I would expect the Government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will give a firm answer to this “Saga”.
