I SYMPATHISE with Hopeful “Consider non-Malays for nursing course” (The Star, April 1).
I am a doctor working in Australia. I have a nurse who is a Malaysian, well trained, with post basic training in neonatology and has been working in a very well-known tertiary unit here in Australia.
She has applied for a nursing position with the Health Ministry three times in the last two years but has not received any reply.
Being a Malaysian, she felt that she would be able to contribute to Malaysian society, hence she applied for the position. When she received no reply, she was obviously very disappointed.
It will be a loss to the Malaysian community as experienced personnel are not given the chance to contribute to society, thus encouraging even more people to leave the country.
